Small companies like ours are frequently the targets of phone scams. One example is when an "accounts payable" person calls us asking for the department that handles renewals of subscriptions. They go on to say that they are just making sure that we renew our subscription to XYZ magazine for $300/yr.
We recently thought of a good response. We suggest you tell them that you are not the right person, they need the accounts payable department and they can be reached at 1.703.276.0100 .
The only downside to this is that you cannot be there when they call the number I just gave you and hear the following: "Better Business Bureau, Complaints Division."
